Image
The legal team of the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has filed a motion, seeking to amend some errors in his petition challenging the outcome of the 2020 general elections. The motion argues that an error was made in the description and positioning of the parties to be served the writ. It also pointed out that there was a typographical error with one of the reliefs in the writ. “In the relief numbered (f) on the writ which was repeated in paragraph 35(f) of the petition, there is a typographical error in the third and fourth lines, which refers to 1st Respondent instead of 2nd Respondent,” the motion said. The motion is thus asking for a reversal of the position and designation of the said parties and a correction of the typographical errors. Mr. Mahama’s election petition in court is seeking among others a declaration from the Supreme Court to the effect that, “the purported declaration of the results of the 2020 Presiden...

Africa needs intra continental trade and not monetary unions

Image
Date:  January 22, 201 6 0     The first step towards our cohesive economy would be a unified monetary zone, with, initially, an agreed common parity for our currencies. – Kwame Nkrumah. 1963 Organisation of African Unity (OAU) Speech at Addis Ababa. It is an incontrovertible fact that there is a lot that the people of Africa can gain from economic and political integration.  Economic and political integration of African nations has been a theme in the continental discourse since Kwame Nkrumah’s inaugural speech at the Organisation of African Unity (now AU) in 1963. Prior to that, there appears to be no record of any political figure or leader calling for a monetary union.  And since then, the monetary union debate has been at the regional level i.e. Economic Community of West African States for the ECO and East African Community’s East African Shilling. The economic benefit of a single currency is palpable: elimination of currency risk, reduced transacti...

Security Analyst cautioned MP's to be self security conscious

Image
Security Analyst, Adib Saani writes......... *Safety of MPs elect dire* With both the NDC and NPP tottering at 137 and 138 MPs (including Independent) respectively, the precarious nature of the power balance in Parliament brings to fore the urgent need for MPs to exercise extra precaution in ensuring their safety.  One might wonder how numbers in Parliament relate to security of MPs.  Well, the uncomfortable truth is, politics in Ghana has become so grime some people, thirsty for power, do anything under the sun to grab it. Therefore, in the unfortunate demise of an MP from either sides, power could tectonically shift and cause major parliamentary re-engineering. As a result, probable politically motivated violence against MPs has become dire.  A lot is at stake, hence, MPs, especially those who were elected under extremely contentious grounds should take personal security more seriously.  These are some few tips worth considering; *1. Equip homes with surveill...

The EC declared Mr Korsah of the NPP as the winner of the poll when he garnered 49,682, as against the 49,205 obtained by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mr Christopher Baasongti Beyere.
